Meggan Huntoon
In 2020, after 20 years of serving vocationally in the local church, God led me in a new direction of ministry. While it was a joy for me to serve on staff at our church, in this season I am shifting my focus to opportunities right in front of me, serving those in my neighborhood & community who are disconnected from God, who aren’t interested in church, who are looking for their hope and peace in everything but Jesus. People are most likely to engage the Gospel through you and me - their neighbors, coworkers, and friends - and we need to be prepared and equipped to engage them in meaningful conversations about faith.
My vision as a local community minister is to bring the Gospel to the lost in Longmont and equip the followers of Jesus to minister effectively to those around them. In my role as a Community Ministry Catalyst, I partner with trusted ministries that provide teams, support, and encouragement in the work that I am doing locally and globally. The ministries that I partner with are:
CRU :: I work with the Cru City Neighbor Bible Studies team. Individually, everyone on our team leads Bible Studies in our neighborhoods, and corporately as a team, we create tools & resources to encourage and equip others to do the same. Check out our website for a wealth of ideas, training videos, a podcast & easy to use Bible Studies to use in your neighborhood, workplace, or anywhere God leads you to start one: NBS2GO. I also encourage you to check out (and share with others) our Advent study for this Christmas season. It is free, easy to use, and accessible!
YOUNG LIFE :: Young Life is a big part of my story and a ministry that does a great work in communities to share Jesus with teenagers. Together with one of the staff in our area, I co-lead the ministry at Altona Middle School, where my son, Sammy, is an 8th grader. I also lead the 8th grade girls, coming alongside a group of 15 teen girls eager to know God! What a privilege to give them their first Bibles and point them to the hope we have in Jesus! I also serve the ministry of Young Life by leading a Women’s Bible Study for Young Life leaders and am the prayer ministry catalyst for our area, working to see a movement of prayer around our schools & community!
SENT :: I have joined with the founders of SENT, Ashley & Heather Holleman, friends from my days on campus staff with Cru at the University of Michigan in the late 90’s. SENT provides workshops, tools & resources to help Jesus-followers grow a greater want-to, how-to, and expect-to embrace life as a “sent-one” of Jesus, taking the hope and love of Christ to those around them. As part of their team, I come alongside churches and ministries to catalyze their efforts to develop a culture of outreach and to mobilize sent ones to help others find their way back to God. You can take a look at their books on Amazon: Sent and The Six Conversations: Pathways to Connecting in an age of Isolation and Incivility.
After graduating from Miami University in Ohio in 1996, Meggan worked in campus ministry with CRU at the University of Michigan. In 2001, she shifted into local church ministry, and for the past 14 years was on staff at Cornerstone Church in Boulder, CO giving leadership to the Connections, Life Groups, Womens & Mom's ministries. In 2020, Meggan followed God's lead to shift her focus to ministering more directly to her local community, joining with the collective of ministry practitioners that serve with Global Service Associates.
Meggan enjoys sunsets and travelling, having coffee with friends new and old, playing pickleball, spending time in the mountains or at the beach, paddleboarding, and cheering for her boys in whatever sports they are playing. She lives in Longmont, Colorado with her husband, Ben, her two teenage sons, John & Sammy, and their Golden Retriever, Nala.
