Jay & Laurie Lorenzen
Driven by a commitment to multiplying discipleship, Laurie and I constantly dream of creative learning and leadership development venues for King and Kingdom. We served with another religious missionary order for 45 years - 20 years as associate staff and 25 years as full-time staff with Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ. Prior to beginning full-time missionary work, I spent my last 12 years on active duty as an Associate Professor of Political Science at the Air Force Academy—during which Laurie and I began the Cru Military movement there. Prior to my Academy assignment, I was a KC-135 Navigator for four years, then selected for an Olmsted Fellowship at Tuebingen Universitat in Germany. After studying in Tuebingen, I attended Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University for his MA, followed by a PhD sponsorship at the University of Denver. After I retired, I completed an MDiv at Denver Seminary.Â
Now, in addition to serving with Faculty Commons, Cru's ministry to faculty, we helped lead the informal Gospel in Action initiative within the US Campus Ministry—attempting to wed together the bold proclamation and compassionate demonstration of the gospel into our local movements. Laurie and I have also directed the "If Properly Led Leadership Development Conference" at Gettysburg, PA (see ifproperlyled.org, now called thehighgroundatgettysburg.org) for the last 25 years. We recently passed on the leadership conference to younger leaders. In a sense, we're now moving from "Swords to Plowshares." We spent the last 25 years teaching leadership principles from the physical battlefield, but I've begun looking at the Agrarian Way of Leadership. In the future, Lord willing, I’ll continue to write and teach lessons drawn from the battlefield as well as now the farm field. I’m currently writing on leadership at jaylorenzen.substack.com.Â
We have 4 married children, 17 grandchildren, and one new great-granddaughter. When I get a chance, I would choose to go fly-fishing above his other hobbies. When not traveling, we live in Lake George, CO, near the Tarryall River, an excellent trout stream. Oh, I read a lot.—Jay
